Privacy Policy
News Never Sleeps (the live globe at newsneversleeps.com, "NNS") is published by Quill & Harbor LLC ("we", "us"). This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices and rights you have. It's short because NNS collects very little: there's no account, no payment, and today there's nowhere on the page to even enter your email.
- NNS shows public data feeds (earthquakes, weather, markets, disasters, world news). We don't sell anything and there are no ads on this site.
- We don't run Google Analytics or Google AdSense here. Cloudflare, our host, runs a cookie-less visit counter.
- If a "get updates" field is ever added, an email address you submit is stored with Cloudflare (our host's database), nowhere else, and you can ask us to delete it any time.
What the globe shows
NNS aggregates free, public, real-time data feeds — earthquakes (USGS), disasters (GDACS/UN OCHA), wildfires and storms (NASA EONET), world news (GDELT and public news wires), crypto markets (CoinGecko), space launches (The Space Devs), air quality and weather, and similar open sources. None of that is personal information about you; it's the same public data anyone can query directly. See "Data sources" in the site menu for the current list.
What we collect about you
- Standard connection data. Cloudflare, which hosts this site, automatically logs request data for every visit (IP address, browser/user-agent, the page requested) to deliver and secure the service. We don't separately store this ourselves.
- Aggregate analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics reports anonymous, aggregate page-view counts to us (how many people loaded the page, from which countries, on which browsers). It's cookie-less and isn't tied to your name, email, or any cross-site identifier — it can't be used to build a profile of you. We do not run Google Analytics, Google AdSense, or any other third-party tracker or advertising script on this site.
- Email address, only if you submit one. The page doesn't currently have anywhere to enter an email. If a "get updates" field is added, an address you submit is sent to
/api/subscribeand stored in Cloudflare's database (Workers KV) so we can reach you about NNS. We don't send anything from that list today. We never sell it and never share it with advertisers.
Cookies
NNS does not set any first-party tracking or advertising cookies. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie (for example __cf_bm) to tell human visitors from bots and keep the site available; that's it.
Who processes this data
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, DDoS/bot protection, the database (KV) that would store an email sign-up, and the cookie-less analytics counter described above.
We don't use Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Stripe, or any email-sending service on this site today. If that changes — for example if NNS ever adds analytics, ads, or a paid tier — we'll update this policy first and name the new processor here.
Selling or sharing personal information
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising, because NNS carries no ads and no ad-tech scripts. There is nothing to opt out of today; if that changes, this policy and a "Your Privacy Choices" link will change with it.
Your rights
Everyone. You can ask us what we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it — for almost every visitor that's nothing beyond ordinary server logs, which age out on their own.
If you're in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland: you have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal information, to restrict or object to our use of it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
If you're in California or another U.S. state with a privacy law: you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to access it, correct it, delete it, and to opt out of its sale, sharing, or use for targeted advertising (we do none of those three today). You may use an authorized agent. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
How to ask: email contact@quillandharbor.com with the subject "Privacy request." We'll respond within one month (EEA/UK/Switzerland) or 45 days (U.S. states).
International transfers
We're based in the United States. Cloudflare operates a global network and may process data in other countries; where it receives personal information from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, it relies on recognized safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
Server logs and the Cloudflare analytics counter age out on Cloudflare's standard retention schedule. An email address, if you ever submit one, is kept until you ask us to delete it or until we delete the list ourselves.
Security
The site is served entirely over HTTPS, and Cloudflare protects it against common attacks. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep what little we hold safe.
Children
NNS isn't directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant — for example, adding analytics, ads, or a paid product — we'll say so here first.
